Our History

The story of Maasai Wanderings begins with Donna Duggan, an adventurous backpacker from Australia, who embarked on a journey to Tanzania in the 1990s.
Initially drawn to the allure of Zanzibar’s pristine beaches, Donna’s travels led her deeper into the heart of Tanzania, where she was captivated by the country’s breathtaking landscapes and the warmth of its people. It was during a volunteer stint as a nurse in the Arusha region that Donna’s love story intertwined with Tanzania’s destiny.
While volunteering, Donna met Nas, a local man with whom she fell deeply in love. Together, they shared a vision of creating a safari company that would not only showcase Tanzania’s natural wonders but also give back to the country and its communities.
With this shared dream, Nas and Donna established Maasai Wanderings, rooted in principles of sustainability, cultural preservation, and community empowerment.
As their business flourished, so did their family, with the addition of two children who grew up immersed in the vibrant tapestry of Tanzanian life.
Tragically, Maasai Wanderings faced an unforeseen challenge in 2017 when Nas embarked on a routine journey for work and his plane vanished from radar. Despite this heartbreaking loss, Donna’s commitment to honoring Nas’s legacy and their shared vision remains unwavering.
Today, Maasai Wanderings continues to thrive, guided by Donna’s steadfast leadership and fueled by a passion for showcasing Tanzania’s wonders while fostering positive change within its communities.
