After breakfast, check out and transfer with picnic lunch. Drive to Amboseli National Park to arrive in time for enroute game drive within the park. Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930’s, inspired Ernest Hemingway’s unforgettable stories ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ and ‘The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940’s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.

Magnificent views of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro greet visitors from anywhere in this park. The park takes it’s name from a Maasai word meaning ‘salty dust’. The largest elephants in Africa live here and on some mornings over 600 have been counted in the swamps. Early morning and afternoon game drives offer the chance to track lion, cheetah, wildebeest and the rare black rhino.

MASAI MARA
Spend the day in the Masai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. The Mara is home to some 95 species of mammals, amphibians and retiles and over 400 bird species. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and it is for this reason a visitor hardly misses to see the Big Five. Other game includes hippopotami, cheetah, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, Coke’s hartebeest, giraffe, roan antelope and wildebeest. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
